Big Ideas / Introduction
In this lesson, you will use a mobile device (iOS or Android) to write an essay that includes characters and dialogue. You will use mobile apps to analyze examples of adjectives in the English language. You will use mobile tools to practice and check your understanding of adjectives. You will then revise your essay using descriptive adjectives to further develop the characters in your essay.

Explanation
- Use your mobile browser to read: What are Adjectives?
- Use YouTube for mobile to view the video: Adjectives Types and Examples
- Launch the Khan Academy app on your mobile device. Search for the “Grammar” section and select Parts of Speech: The Modifier, then select Intro to Adjectives, and watch the video. Repeat with the videos Adjective Order, and Commas and Adjectives.
Check for Understanding
- Launch the Khan Academy app on your mobile device. Search for the “Grammar” section and select Parts of Speech: The Modifier, then select Meet the Adjective. Take the quiz until you reach the “Practiced” (passed) level. Take a screen shot of your Summary and upload it to your Google Drive folder for this Module. Repeat with the quizzes Adjective Order, and Commas and Adjectives.
- Launch the Quizlet app on your mobile device. Search for “English Adjectives Test” and take tests to help you learn adjectives. Take screen shots of your Scores and upload them to your Google Drive folder for this Module.
Extended Practice
- Launch the Duolingo Tinycards app on your mobile device. Search for “English Adjectives” and locate flashcard sets, then use them to help you practice learning adjectives.
- Launch the Quizlet app on your mobile device. Search for “English Adjectives Match” and play matching games to help you practice learning adjectives.
- In a Google Doc, make a list of 20 descriptive adjectives you will use to describe your characters in your revised essay.
- Use the Power Thesaurus app to look up your adjectives and decide if you want to use them, or if the app suggests better and more descriptive synonyms. Note any replacement adjectives in your Doc.
Lesson Closing
- In your Google Doc for mobile essay, use the Grammarly Keyboard app to revise your 2 - 3 page essay to incorporate at least 20 descriptive adjectives describing your characters. Use the Grammarly Keyboard features to check your writing for accuracy.
- When your assignment is completed, submit your original essay and your revised essay to your Google Drive folder and notify your instructor that your assignment is ready for grading.
